Job Description

About the role:

The People & Culture Manager is responsible for leading the strategic development and operational management of the People & Culture function within Disaster Relief Australia (DRA). Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for providing considered and well-informed advice to the CEO, Executive team, and leaders, ensuring alignment with DRA’s mission and values. The position will also facilitate a culture of engaging with staff to gather insights that inform opportunities for improvement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage recruitment, assignments, secondments, and transfers, ensuring that workforce planning aligns with DRA needs.
  • Lead and manage comprehensive onboarding and induction processes to integrate new staff effectively.
  • Continuously improve DRA’s Performance Management Framework and supporting leaders in undertaking meaningful performance appraisals and encouraging a culture of feedback.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives that foster a positive workplace culture that embodies DRA’s values. This may including gathering insights from staff to inform strategic decisions and improvements.
  • Ensure DRA’s people processes are compliant with legislative requirements and provide expert advice on employment matters. This may include representing DRA to Fair Work Australia and other government agencies.
  • Oversee the operation and ongoing maintenance of DRA’s Human Resources Management System to streamline HR operations.
  • Draft and refine HR processes, policies, and procedures as required, ensuring they support organisational growth and are aligned with best practices.
  • Support dispute resolution, handle incident investigations and provide guidance on complex employee relations issues.
  • Actively participate in internal change projects, providing HR expertise to support organisational growth and transformation.

What we are looking for:

  • A proven People & Culture leader with at least 5-years experience in a HR Generalist role. 
  • Experience leading high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, and driving a performance-based culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to streamline and optimise people processes to generate improvement. 
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with experience working closely with a wide range of people, including at the Executive and Board level.
  • Excellent problem-solving, time management and communication skills.
  • Prior experience working in Defence will be highly regarded.
