The Preparedness -- Big Map Project Officer plays a pivotal role in strengthening the readiness, capability and impact of the Big Map program. This role supports the evolution of the Big Map program to be systematised, effectively resourced and confident in delivering community-based planning and engagement activities, while contributing to DRA’s broader preparedness capability.

This is an influential leadership opportunity focused on program alignment, operational effectiveness and continuous improvement — helping ensure Big Map activities remain consistent, practical and nationally scalable.

This is a fixed term part time role until 30/6/2026. Advertised Salary - Pro Rata.

About the opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to contribute at a regional leadership level, shaping the readiness, effectiveness and evolution of the Big Map program. It is well suited to volunteers who are strategic, collaborative and passionate about preparedness, capability development and community resilience.
 

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership, mentorship and coordination across the Big Map program elements

• Lead the implementation of the Big Map Program review

• Support training, resourcing and readiness of Big Map teams

• Foster a safe, inclusive and values-aligned culture

• Support integration of Big Map activities into preparedness and operational frameworks

• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders

• Establish and monitor readiness KPIs and reporting

• Capture lessons and contribute to continuous improvement

• Support alignment with DRA’s strategic and implementation priorities

 

Desired Skills and Experience

What you will bring

• Strategic thinking and the ability to balance evolving priorities

• PRIOR EXPERIENCE in Preparedness, ideally from emergency services or defence

• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills

• Experience supporting volunteer teams, programs or capability development

• Sound judgement, integrity and professionalism

• Ability to work collaboratively across Preparedness and Field Operations

• Resilience, adaptability and a growth mindset

• Confidence contributing to reporting, governance and improvement initiatives

• Alignment with DRA’s values of Courage, Respect, Service and Tenacity

Other considerations

This role may involve occasional out-of-hours engagement, virtual collaboration and coordination across regions.
